The infamous The Rocky Horror Show characters from the cult musical head to the blockchain and have the potential to bring a new multimillion global Web2 cohort of Rocky Horror fans to the Web3 space.
What’s the story?
This year, the worldwide phenomenon that is The Rocky Horror Show celebrates its 50th anniversary. The iconic show transcends generations, geography and sexual ideology, and promotes freedom, fun, individuality, diversity and non-conformity; concepts that resonate well with the Web3 community and which contribute to the show’s enduring appeal.
To celebrate this milestone year, Online Blockchain plc has created NFTs based on characters from the legendary musical (it has a worldwide licence with Interfishnet Limited, rights holders of The Rocky Horror Show intellectual property). NFTs are the first phase of the planned The Rocky Horror Show metaverse.
Utility
NFTs have value because of the artwork itself and often due to their absorbing meme power (Rocky Horror has meme power in spades!). Additionally though, The Rocky Horror Show NFTs will be highly desirable collectibles and will give owners a part in The Rocky Show story and be the keys to unlock access to both virtual and physical world experiences, opportunities, merchandise and even other rare NFTs.
Time Warp Collection
Buyers of one of the 50 Time Warp NFTs get access to rare character packs
The first publicly available The Rocky Horror Show NFT from The Time Warp Collection launched on June 19th on NFT marketplace OpenSea and sold on the same day.
The NFTs in this collection feature the iconic blood drip font logo from the cult show’s title sequence. Each of the 50 pieces is customised with unique traits so that no two are the same.

Gateway
Anyone purchasing one of the 50 Time Warp NFTs automatically qualifies for a free character pack, which contains the full set of The Rocky Horror Show cast reimagined as NFTs. Holders will each receive a total of nine single edition NFTs: Frank-N-Furter, Magenta, Riff Raff, Columbia, Janet, Brad, Rocky, Dr. Everett Scott and Eddie. These will be on the Polygon network and airdropped to Time Warp owners. Holders of the 1/1 logo NFTs will be the first to own the character packs, and as this will be recorded on the blockchain it will ensure that all the pieces in the 50 packs inherit a unique rarity.

The first famous holders
Fittingly, the show’s creator Richard O’Brien has the first Rocky Horror Show NFT. This depicts his character Riff Raff, a role he played in the original 1973 stage show and which he reprised in the 1975 film. The Hollywood Reporter in an interview with Richard invites readers to celebrate the anniversary by visiting the NFT collection.
Actor Richard Meek, who is currently playing squeaky clean Brad Majors, and actor Kristian Lavercombe, who is making his record-breaking appearance as Riff Raff in this year’s UK tour of the show, both hold unique 1:1s of their characters as NFTs. Blockchain
The current Time Warp Collection is on Ethereum. However the nine characters that holders of a Time Warp NFT receive will be on the Polygon network and rumour has it that there might be a drop on Fantom. That’s before we get into Ordinals…
Future
